Ready or not Windows 7 is coming. I admit it, I skipped Vista like many IT Pros did. I have been beta testing Windows 7 and I have to say, Microsoft delivered the goods this time. I will no longer have to request “No Vista! Only XP SP3 please!” Anyway enough of me kissing Microsoft’s ass and lets give you what you came for:

Digeus Registry Cleaner

I was approached by Digeus to give an unbiased review of their Registry Cleaner utility. I was provided a free copy so I can evaluate how it did since the Trial only lets you fix only 5 registry entries. Digeus claims that their software starts by conducting a deep scan of your registry, checking for file extension errors and other registry conflicts. So I put it to the test against my favorite Freeware Windows Optimization Utility CCleaner.

I had a clients laptop (Toshiba Satellite – Intel CPU 2.30GHz, 1.21 GB of Ram, Windows XP SP3) which I could tell needed a registry repair. To open Firefox (3.0.11) before running Digeus Registry Cleaner it took on average 51.7 seconds to open. After running Digeus it took Firefox 11.6 seconds to open (still unacceptable but this is before a defrag, disk clean up & chkdsk).

Here is what I found interesting…CCleaner only detected 119 invalid registry while Digeus found 993.

The program is available for sale at their website for $17.99, which to me is a lot of money for program that does one thing. They have a System Optimizer Suite for $39.99 which seems to be a better value than just buying the registry cleaner alone.
